Ruck over at Convert2Media is at it again (I actually ALMOST typed Cash Tactics just then).  The man spews forth some pure gold, you know that?

Today, his post was on making money with the Acai craze.

Specifically, Ruck says it’s never too late to get into the weight loss game.  Now, I’ll admit, this is a market that I have not touched.  I might do so after reading his post today.  He suggests that instead of targeting “weight loss”, why not target “fat calves” or “spare tire”…you get the picture.

In fact, rather than me just restating the whole thing, why don’t you go sign up with Convert2Media and then read the post yourself…that way you’ll know why the hell I’ve got a picture of Oprah at the top of this post.

CrunchGear reports that Google uses a secret call in their new mobile app called “proximityStateChanged”. This call can tell if the iPhone’s proximity sensor has been tripped.

This basically means that Google’s app can detect upward motion to your ear and then wait for your input once its there.

Why should we care?

It’s not listed in any documented feature set and Google is essentially violating the Terms of Use.

CrunchGear quotes Senor Gruber as proposing:

1. Whoever at Apple approved this Google Mobile update did not realize that it was using the private proximyStateChanged method.

2. Whoever at Apple approved it knew that it used a private API, but approved it anyway.

3. Google sought and obtained permission from Apple to use this method.

I don’t know about you, but I can just hear the black helicopters circling the Googleplex now, can’t you?

I’m a pretty open-minded person, but Google really threw me for a loop this afternoon when I saw a post on the Google blog entitled, “Transgender Rememberance Day“.

The blog post starts out like this…

“The post below kicks off an occasional series, entitled Interface, about valuing people’s similarities and differences in the workplace…

November 20th marks Transgender Remembrance Day, which takes on a special significance in a world awakening to the need for unity among all people. In observing this day, the Gayglers — the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) group within Google — extend their wholehearted support to the LGBT community at large, as we reflect on the senseless violence perpetrated against transgender people around the world.”

OK, wait a minute…”Gayglers”?  I know Google wants to be diverse, but come on now.

I don’t mean to make light of what is certainly a very serious issue.  Anyone who commits violence against another person because of their skin color, because of their race, or because of their sexual preference should be dealt with in the most severe manner.

Still, maybe I’ve lived a sheltered life, but this is stretching things a bit, don’t you think?

Transgender Remembrance Day.  I didn’t even know that there was such a thing.

After enjoying some success in India, Yahoo’s “Glue Pages” are coming to the U.S.

Yahoo Glue Beta is essentially a pag of structured search results, pulling content on particular topics from a variety of different sources, including news sources, Wikipedia, image search, Yahoo Answers, blogs and video.

There are also paid search ads on the page (hint hint!). The sources change with the particular topic and not all topics are available, although the Yahoo Search Blog says more will be added eventually.

“We’re starting with a limited set of topics (more will be added over time), pulling together content from the best places on the Web onto one Yahoo! Glue™ page. These pages are built using an algorithm that automatically places the most relevant modules on a page, giving you a visually rich, diverse page all about the topic in which you’re interested.”

Here is an example of what a “Glue” search would look like for Hugh Jackman…

No word when there will be a page on Hugh Jass (sorry, I’m a huge “Simpsons” fan).

Yahoo says it is not their intention to replace the Yahoo Search experience in the U.S. with Glue Pages.  They’re simply challenging themselves to explore innovative new ways to “deliver great experiences”.

Well, just about anything will be better than the experience I am currently enjoying with their stock price (eek!).

I havea to admit, I’m having trouble containg myself.  My favorite band of all time is releasing a new album…actually, their first album in 17 years.

Yep, Guns N’ Roses new album “Chinese Democracy” is officially being released on November 23rd.  Can’t wait that long?  Me neither.

Fortunately for us, the new album debuts tonight at midnight EST (9PM PST) on MySpace Music.

The album has become something of a legend,  with an unbelievable number of delays and band lineup changes pushing the release date back time and again.

Finally, the wait is over.  Rolling Stone seems to love it.

Google has announced that they are pulling the plug on Lively, its browser-baseed virtual world application that could be embedded into other sites.

We were beginning to wonder why this program didn’t even work in Chrome, and this would seem to explain it.

The official notification says that the plug will be pulled on December 31 of this year.

The truth is, Lively was pretty much dead anyway.  As TechCrunch reports, after an initial spike, Lively flat-lined…

Google says,

“It has been a tough decision, but we want to ensure that we prioritize our resources and focus more on our core search, ads and apps business.”

R.I.P. Lively.

Yesterday, Google unveiled a new Search-based Keyword Tool.  This thing could really have some potential.  here is a quick look at what Google’s new tool does…

“Based on your URLs, the Search-based Keyword Tool displays a list of relevant user queries that have occurred on Google.com (and on other Google search properties, such as google.co.uk) with some frequency over the past year…The Search-based Keyword Tool compares your website and current AdWords campaigns against actual, past Google search queries to identify additional keywords that might be relevant for your campaigns. The tool compiles a list of search queries relevant to your website that don’t already appear in your AdWords campaigns.”

The tool is available to US and UK users and is the perfect solution for those setting up their AdWords campaign–and don’t know which keywords to start with–or those of us that worry that we have a few gaps in our keyword list.
